Captain's Quarters has been spearheading a group of bloggers who are translating the thousands of pre-war Iraqi government documents that were recently declassified after never having been translated by the U.S. government.
According to one just-translated document, Saddam Hussein recruited people from his air forces for a "suicide mission" against America in order to help "liberate Palestine." As Captain's Quarters points out, this shows Saddam's active efforts to attack the U.S. or "U.S. interests." As he says, this memo shows that "destroying Saddam's regime is an integral part of the war on terror, not a distraction." He also draws some interesting lines between activities of the 9-11 hijackers and the recruitment effort.
The translation project is only in its infancy and hasn't produced any definitively explosive documents, but there are substantive developments. Keep an eye on Captain's Quarters. It could get interesting!
